Fats Waller - Your Feet’s Too Big

Often imitated but never duplicated (delivered in Casey Kasem’s voice), Fats Waller was the peak of hipness in 1940, when “Your Feet’s Too Big” hit #15 on the charts. “Your Feet’s Too Big”, as you might expect, is a song about a woman whose pedal extremeties are simply colossal, which apparently was quite a turnoff for ol’ Fats. Commenting negatively on the size of a woman’s tootsies is a bit rich from a man who chose to be recognized based on his own girth, but whatever. An interesting Waller legend concerns a time he was kidnapped while leaving a 1926 Chicago performance, taken to Al Capone’s Hawthorne Inn, where he was forcibly confined and made to perform at Capone’s birthday party… for 3 days, after which he was allowed to leave, “drunk, exhausted, but with thousands of dollars in cash”. Unfortunately I’m not currently holding thousands in cash but I’ve got the drunk and exhausted down pat. Also, the fats part.
